OK boys. Face it, women sometimes like a manly beard. But do you have what it takes? It requires patience, persistence, (and just enough testosterone) to pull it off.
- The first step in growing a beard is deciding to grow one. This is no trifling matter. Growing a beard takes at least 4 weeks including enduring an uncomfortable itchy period and having to answer ridiculous questions like: “Are you trying to grow a beard?” from your friends and colleagues.
- Don’t shave. Despite the popularly held belief, shaving will not make your beard grow faster or thicker.
- Pick a time when you can get a running start like at the beginning of a vacation or even a long weekend.
- Resist the urge to trim or shape the beard. Let it grow as much as possible before shaving, even if you are going for the “goatee” look. The hairs on your face will be in various stages of growth; not all are actively growing at the same time, so you have to be patient to see where it will fill in and where it won’t.
- What if your beard is spotty? Unlike your scalp, the hair on your face will not cover every inch. Some men will have hair from their eyeballs to their neck. If you’re this guy, then feel free to shave areas to shape it. Most men will have some areas that are spotty or thin, like on their cheeks and chin. This is determined by genetic and hormonal factors. There is little you can do about it, so work with what you’ve got.
- What about applying Rogaine (minoxidil) to your face? Minoxidil is a drug that was used to lower blood pressure until it was found it also grows hair. In topical form, it causes hair growth on the scalp of men and women with hereditary hair loss. Why it works is not really known. In theory, Rogaine could help you grow a beard, but this is never been shown in studies, nor is it FDA approved for facial hair. Applying Rogaine (minoxidil) to your face would likely be irritating and can also cause acne. If ingested or if applied in excessive amounts, it could cause serious side effects like a drop in your blood pressure.
- Biotin is a dietary supplement known to help with hair and nail growth. Consider taking 2.5 mg of biotin each day.
- You might find that growing a beard gives you an itchy, red, scaly rash on your face. Try using a little dandruff shampoo like Head and Shoulders on your beard two or three times each week. You can also apply a mild over the counter steroid cream like hydrocortisone 1% once a day.
- When your beard starts growing, the hairs are often stiff at first; they will soften over time. Consider using a mild steroid like hydrocortisone 1% everyday to help with the itching.
- After 4 to 6 weeks you should have a good idea what your beard will look like. If after 6 weeks you find people saying: “Oh, are you trying to grow a beard?” consider the clean-shaven look.

I seem to have an excessive amount of penis hair, but little facial hair. I have always wondered if I could get micro plugs of those hairs on my face to achieve a full luxurious beard, or if that would result in bad scarring on my face. The penis hairs are pretty soft due to all the tsubaki oil I have been applying; however, I don’t know if that condition would persist if I move them to my face.

The best way to grow facial hair if you have peach fuzz was passed down to me from my grandfather in Switzerland many years ago. This is really hard due to the fact that it is almost impossible now days to find chickens alive and running around with access to them.
Here’s the secret:
Chicken shit if examined closely is made up of white, greenish and sometimes a greenish gray color. If you can find live chickens look for fresh chicken shit. If you find some you have it made. Scoop or pick up as much of the chicken’s feces trying not to mix it up. Take a tooth pick or similar item and pick out all the green or green/gray colored shit and leave the white. The white part is of no use.
Save the green/gray shit in an airtight container until you have at least an amount equal to the size of a baseball or a big palm full. Dip your finger or fingers into it and apply it to your face just in the places you want the facial hair to grow. Do this before retiring for the night and after you have it all in place in a thin layer let it dry and stay on your face/neck for at least one hour, longer if you have the time. Then use an antibacterial soap to wash your face and neck with warm water and rinse it really good. Try this for seven to ten days and you should see a big difference in your facial hair. If not, some have had success with goose shit but that is really hard to find and I have never tried that. For you mustache, it is better to apply the chicken shit to the inside of your upper lip. Don’t eat or drink anything while it is in there and don’t swallow any of it due to health risks. After one hour rinse your mouth with water, then use a good mouthwash and then brush your teeth and rinse and gargle really well.
If none of the above work you are just not meant to have a beard, some people never do and I think they are the lucky ones.

What nobody has bothered to mention on this is the nutrition factor that plays a part in beard growth. Sure most of it is genetics but there are some things you can do to help aid beard growth. Such as drinking plenty of water, exercising (since exercise has been proven to help raise testosterone levels), Eating a healthy amount of vegetables (especially the greens), and making sure to get those omega 3′s (found in fish oil as well as many types of nuts and seeds such as sunflower seeds. Also it is important to use a gentle shampoo and a gentle conditioner to keep the hair moisturized as well as keeping the pores clear on the face. Applying an anti-dandruff shampoo on the face once to twice a week may help with the itching. Additional supplements can help as mentioned above i.e. biotin. As for all the ridiculous comments, isn’t that what youtube is for?
